We are not so little anymore! Three months old!

Chonkers! These two have been packing on the pounds this past month and the good kind of pounds, not just water weight. They now have double chins and lots of rolls to hide all sorts of crusties. Quin is currently 2,622 grams or 5 pounds 12.4 ounces. Elan is 2,901 or 6 pounds 6.3 ounces. Quin is trying to catch his brother, but Elan is not giving up this battle.

They were moved back to the intermediate care unit a little over a week ago and so far things are going well. This time they were moved into a twin room, which has been lovely. For the first time in 3 months, we get to be alone as a family. We have also found this environment to be positive for them as well. Now that they are a little older, they notice the dings and cries of the babies around them. They both instantly chilled out a little bit once in their quiet and calm space.

A couple weeks ago, one of our favorite nurse practitioners dropped some news that was pretty hard to swallow at first. She tried to soften the news by joking about not being able to go to grocery stores once we got home. I wasn’t understanding what she meant, so we dug a little bit. She explained that because our boys were born so early, they have not developed a solid immune system to be able to take on the outside world. That means they cannot be in crowded places, around small children, or in germy places for a long time. We don’t really know how long a long time will be, but we definitely have to be extremely careful until April when RSV season ends. This means that we will have to be the hand sanitizer family, who never leaves the trailer (I will explain that in a second). This is a small sacrifice to keep our boys safe and out of the hospital, but this news was hard to swallow. No family Thanksgiving and Christmas. No welcome home party. No Sun Peaks with our friends and their new baby. We know this time will go by fast and will be absolutely worth it in the long run, but we are sad to not get to introduce you all to our incredibly adorable boys when they come home. If you do come over, I apologize in advance for asking you to wash your hands and sanitize repeatedly.

Yep, all four of us are moving into a trailer. In an ideal world, the house would be done, but that is not going to happen, so we are moving onto plan b. We have worked really hard for the past year on our house and we would hate to do a crappy job on the finish work because we are rushing to finish it. We have thought about renting a house, but that would be a total bummer because Geoff would have to leave us to go work on the house. This allows us all to be together while we finish our home. Not ideal, but totally manageable for a while.

Our plan is to buy a used one, so we can keep it as a guest house after we move in, but if anyone has one we can borrow for a couple months, please let us know.

Thanks for following our journey. It hasn’t been an easy one, but it sure has made us appreciate what we have. We have incredible friends and family who have rallied around us when we have needed them most. We also have each other. I cannot imagine what I would have done without Geoffrey by my side. He has given up everything for himself the past 3 months to be here for us, love us, and build our house. I am a lucky girl.
